The number of US companies that hired Brazilian workers rose from 865, in 2022, for 1.271 last year – high of 46,9%. Among the companies that sought national labor the most are names like Dakota Provisions,Microsoft,Google,Fire on the Ground,Amazon,McKinsey and Siemens.
The data is part of the 2024 edition of the survey "The US Companies that Hire Brazilians the Most", held annually by AG Immigration, law firm specialized ingreen cards.
According to the numbers – collected from hundreds of thousands of requests for hiring new foreigners made to the U.S. Department of Labor –, Brazil was the seventh country with the most citizens going to work in the USA in 2023. The list is led by India (26,6 thousand,China,7 thousand) and Mexico (2,1 mil.
The study takes into account newly arrived immigrants to the US as permanent residents, without considering those who obtained the green card document in previous years, those who were hired on a temporary basis or cases where the notification of hiring to the Department of Labor is waived.
Leda Oliveira, CEO of AG Immigration, explain that the immigration flow to the US has intensified significantly in recent years, due to the shortage of labor in the American market and the slow growth rate of the Brazilian economy. Access to higher education in Brazil in the last two decades has also contributed to this phenomenon, especially regarding the hiring of professionals with higher education, say.
In 2023, 28.050 Brazilians obtained the green card, what is the document that grants permanent residency to a foreigner.It is the largest volume in history and the second consecutive record. Companies That Hired the Most Brazilians
The animal protein production industry and the building cleaning and maintenance services sector were the ones that hired the most Brazilians in 2023. The list is led by Dakota Provisions, of meat production, that admitted 33 citizens from Brazil last year, everyone for the position of packers and packagers
Next, the United Maintenance Company appears, specialized in providing cleaning and caretaking services. The company hired 32 Brazilians to work as cleaners, caretakers and chambermaids. In third place, is at West Liberty Foods, state-owned company in Iowa that produces beef and chicken protein and was responsible for opening 25 positions for Brazilians to work in the operation of its meat processing machines
As has happened in other years, technology companies from the USA also stood out among the ten that hire the most Brazilians. In 2023, for example, Google hired 17 professionals in the field, being the vast majority of software developers and systems analysts. It is the same situation as Microsoft, that took 18 workers, for the same functions
A well-known name among meat lovers has also made it to the ranking of companies in the US that hire the most Brazilians. The steakhouse Fogo de Chão, that today has several units on American soil, took 13 professionals to work in Uncle Sam's land, everyone for the position of chefs de cuisine
The research also shows that the majority of Brazilians (278) were hired to work in the state of Florida.Massachusetts,California (98),Texas (79) and New York (74) complete the top five destinations
Educational Level of Brazilians in the USA
The AG Immigration survey showed that there was an increase in the hiring of Brazilians of all educational levels. According to the numbers, 635 of them had no training, 174 had only completed high school, 22 were technologists, 319 had a degree, 96 were masters and 24, doctors
"Even though lower-skilled jobs predominate", since there is much more demand for them, it is remarkable how the profile of the Brazilian who migrates to America has changed in recent decades. They occupy, increasingly, positions that require specialized knowledge and training, analyze Leda.
Two Brazilians with higher education, the most common degree was in Business Administration, with 98 professionals holding a degree in the field. Next, Electrical Engineering (39),Computer Science (38),Mechanical Engineering (28) and Information Technology (26).
The AG Immigration survey also revealed where these professionals graduated. As in previous years, the University of São Paulo topped the list, with 23 former students hired by companies in the USA in 2023. Behind, Estácio College (16),Unicamp,Unesp (13) and Mackenzie (12).
Eye-Popping Salaries
The highest salary identified by the research, among Brazilians hired by US companies in 2023, he was a doctor graduated from Gama Filho University, what it was like to work as a neurologist at Hartford Healthcare, Massachusetts health company. The specialist was hired with a salary equivalent to R$ 328 thousand per month, in the conversion of 5,25 reais for each dollar

The lowest salary identified by the survey was for a nanny hired in Texas to earn R$ 7,6 thousand per month. On average,the monthly remuneration of the Brazilian was R$ 29,2 thousand – below R$ 55,1 thousand globals, considering all the nationalities of the 52.715 new immigrants hired by US companies in 2023.
"Numbers like these show why there has been a brain drain from Brazil". They are salaries much higher than those in the national market.
