Tips and controversies of Black Friday

Black Friday is coming and, this year, the race for discounts and promotions takes place on November 29. But for conscious or hurried consumers, planning and purchasing can start now

And the first of the controversies about the date involves the very expression "Black Friday", questioned by many activists. After all, talking about Black Friday can be interpreted as an expression that refers to racism? For some, the problem would be the use of the term "black" to refer to a discount date, as if "black" were associated with something that might be worth less. It would be a condemnable expression like "blacklist", that was used for a long time to refer to people with some pending issues in the market or in their field of activity

As controversy does not interest commerce, many companies have started to use other expressions to refer to the date, like "Beauty Week", "Special Week", etc. Thus, instead of feeding a controversy, a solution is found and we turn our attention to the date, liquidations and discounts in themselves, what is what matters

But why does Black Friday already start for conscious consumers? According to lawyer Francisco Gomes Júnior, digital law specialist and president of ADDP (Personal Data Defense Association), the main attraction of the date is the significant discounts. So, the first step is always to know if the discount is real. Therefore, that consumer who already has an interest in a specific product, you should already print the current prices of the product you want, in several stores, so that on Black Friday you can compare prices and check if the discount really exists and is at the advertised percentage

For the date itself, according to Gomes, the impulse and rush to make a purchase make everyone more vulnerable to scams. "Be calm and prudent", "because money does not tolerate insults" concludes

The lawyer lists useful tips for success in shopping

– Be wary from now on of big promotions and promises of selling products at prices much lower than those practiced in the market. Research the reputation of stores that have exaggerated promotions

– Якщо можна, make a plan to buy what you want in cash or in the smallest number of installments possible. Avoid interest rates that significantly increase the cost of the product. When faced with promotions to pay in many installments without interest, check if the interest is not included in the amount

– Be very careful with scams during this period. With the approach of Black Friday, numerous frauds are attempted. Upon receiving emails or messages, do not click on links that you are not sure are safe. Clicking on a malicious link can pose a danger to your personal data

– If you are making an online purchase taking advantage of a promotion through a store website or platform abroad, carefully observe the exchange rate of the foreign currency in relation to the real and see if the exchange rate is appropriate. Check also the amount that will be paid with tax and other charges, as well as the delivery forecast and the traceability of your order

But what would be a golden tip, that final for this day? "Follow the basic steps", check the store and its reputation, check if the site is genuine and has a security padlock, check if the price is really advantageous and when paying prefer the credit card that, different from PIX, allows for the refund of unrecognized amounts and purchases, enables the exercise of the right of withdrawal, that in PIX it is much more difficult to be exercised concludes the specialist
