Generative Artificial Intelligence: important in life, in the arts and in the world

Currently, oneBuzzwordthat anyone knows and uses is Artificial Intelligence (AI): it has taken over the conversation wheels, the operations of companies and it is not just a passage, she came to stay. AI has some models and the term of the moment is Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI), what is capable of learning from all the "footprints" we leave on the internet to generate information and, from there, generate answers to questions we ask through commands that are calledprompt

But what caused this "boom" to happen for a technology that is no longer new? She approached common use and became simpler. This is because IAG is a technology that can generate new content, as text, images and music, for being "trained" on a dataset.

It is important to remember that IAG is a tool and, like any tool, can be used for good or not. It is our role to ensure that it is used responsibly and that society is protected from the misuse of this technology

I really like to emphasize thatTHE HUMANit is essential throughout this journey when determining the creative profile, informative and useful. It is the human that ensures the use of AI for good and not for evil. This is our biggest task in the face of this future. I will highlight examples of "good IAG" next

Daily use

In everyday life, we use maps with routes and spreadsheets that help us create formulas without needing to be specialists. Other examples of how people are using AI positively are

  • Creative content – can generate poems, stories and musical pieces. OpenAI created the GPT-3 language model that can generate human-quality text in response to a wide range of questions
  • Translation– can translate languages. Google Translate uses AI to translate over 100 languages
  • Writing- can write different types of content, like articles and emails, with correction. Grammarly uses AI to check for grammatical and spelling errors in texts written by humans
  • Answers- can answer questions in an informative way. Siri and Google Assistant use AI to answer questions on a wide range of topics

Use in marketing

IAG is also present in marketing, mainly in internet and social media actions, such as content relevance (analyzing navigation patterns and interactions) and user experience (engaging them by personalizing content and ads)

Use in education

In education, IAG enables increasing student interest through:

  • Personalized and adaptive learning analysis, in real time, the progress and the needs of the students, adjusting your experiences based on learning difficulties and ease
  • Gamification can add gamification features and make learning more engaging for students
  • Virtual tutors – you can create virtual tutors with individualized attention that help students with their tasks

Use in art and music

An interesting application field of AI is the creation of art and music from a database and artistic styles. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs) are technologies used for this purpose. Artists like John Whitney (computer animator), Vera Molnar (computational artist), SKYGGE (musician), Refik Anadol (designer), Mario Klingemann (computational artist) and Robbie Barrat (designer) explored AI in their works.

However, this situation raises intellectual property issues. In the first place, the concept of authorship becomes nebulous when it comes to artworks generated by AI. Who should receive the credit? It would be the programmer, the machine or the user who provided the initial parameters for the creation of the work? These questions still do not have definitive answers

In Brazil, there is an important discussion about the use of images of artists who have already died in advertisements, like the case of Elis Regina in the Volkswagen advertisement: the National Council for Advertising Self-Regulation (CONAR) filed an ethical complaint against the advertisement due to consumer complaints about respectability and about fiction vs reality

IAG and the Future

For all of this, IAG is redefining boundaries and indicating a future in which it will be an integral part of almost every aspect of our lives

The capacity for innovation from AGI is democratizing creativity. As AI becomes more prevalent, the need for digital awareness and education also increases. Understanding how these systems work and how they can be used is an essential component for navigating safely.

It is essential that appropriate policies and regulations are developed to ensure that AI is used correctly: issues regarding data privacy, security, equity and responsibility need to be addressed to ensure that AI is used in a way that benefits everyone, without increasing inequalities or harming individual rights.

Finally, as we prepare to welcome the IAG into our future, we must also strive to shape this future in a way that respects human values and promotes the common good
